40 years

Oma & Opa celebrated 40 years of marriage on June 20, 2010.
We got to celebrate with them and friends family.
I asked them for advice on how to make it to forty years...

*Compromise*
&
*Not every day is good, but the good ones make up for those.*
Cole made a new friend in Cooper.
I have not heard the end of how badly Cole wants to play with "Toupuh" again!
Derek won Dad of the year for wearing himself the boys out completely!
We are lucky to have Oma & Opa as an example of commitment and longstanding love.
Happy Anniversary, Lovebirds.

poor pooch

Look what I did to our poor dog.
Hey Lita, Which is worse...running from Katrina, or dealing with this new haircut?

I think the look on her face says it all...

Unveiling Cole's Room

Cole's new room has a little surprise hiding in it....
....actually it is quite large...
...it's a chalkboard wall!
The perfect place for drawing "tall, tall grass" (Cole's first creation on the wall), or whatever your heart desires.

A Kings Work

...is never done - but Daddy's deck project is coming along nicely.

Oma

We have received scary news about Oma.
She is "sick with something in her belly," as we have told Cole.
The something in her belly is cancer, more specifically on her pancreas and liver.
We are scared and sad and trying to hold it together.
We are also grateful and sentimental and trying to show her how very much we love her.
Please keep Oma in your heart and prayer and thoughts.

Where We Are

Where we are now is....

...perfect for flying a kite....
...unless you're crabby.

Daddy's Day 2010

Cole's treat to Opa and Daddy was doughnuts.
We sneaked them in while the dads were still sleeping.
After our drive home, Cole got a nap in while Derek continued work on the deck (I could not convince him that he deserved total relaxation on his Father's Day).  Then we headed to Na & G's house for a quick swim and to wish G a wonderful day.

Happy Fathers Day to a few of the best!
We love you lots Daddy!
and Opa!
and Grandpa!
and G!

L, L, & L

Legos, Lattes, and Little Einsteins make for a nice, slow Saturday morning.

ConGRADuations, Uncle Adam!

We were so proud to spend the weekend with Uncle Adam and the family to celebrate Adam's graduation.  Uncle Adam was Salutatorian of his graduating class, such an accomplishment!
We did not end up with great seats to see Uncle Adam's speech.  Our fault, we waited until last minute to head to graduation, knowing that Cole would not want to sit any longer than necessary.

Cole didn't make it too long in the crowded gym.  Luckily, there was a playground just outside.  Derek took Cole out while I watched Adam do his thing.....his Gandhi quote made me extra proud!
Be still my heart to come out to find this.  Cole found a friend, whom he held hands with, up the steps and down the slide.  Over and over again.

Sheryl had a wonderful celebration for Adam with friends and family after the ceremony.  After we ate cake it was time for all of us to hit the sack!

Saturday morning we headed down to the lake to do some fishing.  First thing when fishing is to gather worms.  Cole got confused on this one....noticing that the worms wanted to get out, he took the liberty to free them.  Daddy & Grandpa's hard work digging worms - - got thrown away, literally.  After we found a few more worms, we headed down.
Another successful Crappie day.  Cole loved it.  This time he was a little more brave, touching the fish a time or two.  What a happy day and great weekend!

Congrats again, Uncle Adam!  We couldn't be more proud and we hope you love your college years!....but not too much!  ;)

A Boy, the Great Outdoors, and Lots of Love

Cole got the opportunity to spend the day and night with Grandpa & Grandma B'meyer's house while we were on the wine trail.
To say he got lots of attention and had a great time would be a huge understatement.
Just look....
He got to spend the day fishing.  With some help from Grandpa he caught lots of Crappie Fishies.  It was all good until the fish came close to him.  I was told that he screamed "it's gonna EAT ME!" each time.  ;)

These photos are absolutely hilarious to me.  He got to bang away on Uncle Aaron's drums.  The face and the use of all of the drum kit - I think we might be on to something!
And Cole obviously rocked the guitar with Uncle Adam.
I think Cole had an amazing day.  By the looks of these, Grandma Sheryl's photos from the day, he got lots of love and attention....and got to do more country boy stuff.
To top it off....ice cream!

THIRTY!

For my thirtieth birthday, I wanted to celebrate just like last year.  So, we did. Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.  Erica & Todd, Mom & Ed, Jamie & her graduating friends, Jon & Abby, Laura & Chris, Jill & Cassidy, and Derek & I set out.

Our journey began at Von Jakob.  It was very pretty and sometime after we left, there was going to be live music.  It was graduation weekend at SIU, so there were lots of graduates with their friends and families there to celebrate.

So pretty...the landscape that is!

Our second stop was Alto Vineyards, very fun and pretty.
Laura provided the entertainment.  I love you, Laura!

Our last stop was Hedman Vineyards.  We had to move quickly as places closed early.  Hedman was great, complete with a friendly old dog.  That makes it for me.
Hedman also housed a steroid riddled young local and his baby...we were NOT talking bad about his baby.  Let me just make that clear.  ;)

The crowd and conversation were wonderful.  I am a lucky girl to have such fabulous friends and family!

There was a loooong drive to our next stop.....looong.

We ended the night at Rustle Hill Winery, same as last year.  We ordered several pizzas, filled our bellies, and tried to keep warm.
I am so thankful to get to celebrate this milestone with such wonderful people.  Thanks everyone for making it a great day.

Mother's Day 2010

Becoming a mom has been my truest joy. I feel like my life started over when Cole came into it. I can't imagine life without him. I am so incredibly blessed to be his mommy. However, I know I wouldn't be the mommy that I am without the mothers who shaped me.
I am a Happy Mother because of all the mamas.  Not to mention all of the mama-mentoring from friends and fellow mommies.  Being a mother is membership to a very cool club!

I got to spend the day with my mom, grandmother, and sister.  We did lovely girlie things: lunch at a cute little cafe, pedicures, and homemade tiramisu (a new tradition, that hopefully Jamie and I will improve!).  I came home to thoughtful gifts from Cole and Derek, what a wonderful day!

The only thing missing was the rest of the mama's I love.  Happy Mother's Day Sheryl, Suzie, and all the g'mas!

Enjoy the photos from the day along with some lovely words about mothers.

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.
~Washington Irving

Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother.   ~Lin Yutang, Chinese writer

Making a decision to have a child--it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.
~Elizabeth Stone

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.
She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
~Rajneesh

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.
~ Jewish proverb

A mother understands what a child does not say.
~Author Unknown

Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.
~William Makepeace Thackeray

We never know the love of the parent until we become parents ourselves.
~Henry Ward Beecher

Country Boy

I think Cole enjoyed his time @ Na & G's house. I know I enjoyed watching him do boy stuff like....
 ~play outside~

~jump, JuMp, JUMP, out some energy~

~find critters~

~'fish' with his new friend, the neighbor cat~

~ride bikes~

~play ball~

~play with dogs and run in the yard~

~and ride 4-wheelers~

A welcome change from life of a 'city' kid.  We really enjoyed seeing Cole live the life of a country boy!
